PCMan is one of the most lightweight file manager for many Linux distributions. PCManFM comes as the default file manager for LXDE “Lightweight X11 desktop environment”. Key Features of PCMan File Manager
PCMan is a lightweight file manager, it uses a small amount system resources and built using GTK+ and C programming language, so you will be able to compile it in many Linux distributions, even if the developers didn’t provide a binary package for it, as long as you have installed the right dependencies for PCManFM you will be able to build it. Also, the PCMan wiki page includes installation guides for two major Linux distributions such as “Ubuntu & Fedora” and you will be able to compile it from the source.
PCMan features an extra pane “dual pane”, which become useful if you would like to drag and drop from one directory to another. Unlike the recent release of “Nautilus” file manager, this feature does not exist any more. Keyboard shortcut to use extra pane “F3”.
Advanced search utility with many options such as “file size, modifications date, file content, file types, searching from multiple locations, ..etc”. So, you can limit and specify the search results. Bookmarks features allows you to bookmark folders for an easier and quicker access.
You can open directories in terminal, make sure you have assigned a Terminal emulator from PCMan “Edit menu –> Preference –> Advanced”.
Browse and run currently installed applications in your system from PCManFM.
Access remote servers “FTP, SSH and webdav” directly from PCMan file manager.

Install PCMan 1.2.0 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander using PPA
Binary packages and the source code of the latest stable release of PCMan file manager version 1.2.0 along with libfm 1.2.0 are available on the development repository for Lubuntu distribution.
Run Terminal, then type,
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pcmanfm
[note]PCMan 1.2.0 is available to install using this repository on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr and any Linux distribution based on these releases of Ubuntu such as “Elementary OS Luna, Linux Mint 16, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, ..etc”. But, the official local repository for Ubuntu 14.04 is already up to date with PCMan 1.2.0. So, if you are running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS development branch, you are not have to add additional repository just install it using the command down below.[/note]
