With this release, the development teams decided to dive in and focus on
introducing some of the new innovations we’ve been imagining for
the upcoming LTS cycle, and so are very pleased to be able to announce
the release of Ubuntu 12.10 for Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core
So, this release comes with several new features and improvements since the long term support release Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin. However, many users including me are really upset about some of the recent changes to Ubuntu 12.10 and how Canonical working on monetizing Ubuntu for generating revenue. We have seen many methods Canonical uses to generate revenue such as cloud based storage and Ubuntu One which is available for Microsoft Windows and MAC OS X as well. Now, Canonical introduces a new way to generate revenue by integrating services like “Amazon”. So, when ever you open your Unity “Home Dash” you will try to search for an application, Audio file, Video,…etc. you will always see a “More suggestions” which brings more result depending on your search entry from Amazon.
Canonical is starting a new methodology to generate revenue by affiliation programs with other companies. As a beginning we have “Amazon” by default on Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, and who knows how this release will be in the future!!
Probably, this is not the right place to write about amazon affiliation and Canonical madness, However, I will try to concentrate on the positive side of this release, in few words until I finish a closer look post about Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.
