Few days ago we have seen the Linux Mint 12 Lisa with the upcoming changes and key features preview such as Mint Gnome Shell Extension MGSE and Gnome 3. Now Linux Mint 12 RC release candidate is available to download and test.
Earlier preview added by LinuxMint shows quite the same new features mentioned on the release notes of Linux Mint 12 RC Lisa. Linux Mint 12 based on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot, It comes with Gnome 3 and Mint Gnome Shell Extension. MGSE featuring with the new bottom panel, applications menu, window list, visible system tray icons and a task-centric desktop allows you to easily switch with between running applications using Alt+Tab.
So far known issues with Linux Mint 12 RC are quite critical. Mate is the fork of Gnome 2.32 still not stable enough and not fully compatible with Gnome 3. Nautilus file manager does not feature MD5 integration and ability to open directory as a root user. Adding repositories to Linux Mint 12 RC require using “Oneiric” keyword instead of “Lisa”. Apturl not associated with apt:// protocol, so you won’t be able to install applications from websites like GetDeb. MoonLight 4 sliverlight implementation has been removed from Linux Mint 12 RC because it crash firefox web browser, you still can install latest version from Here. Most of the known problem in Linux Mint 12 RC will be fixed in the upcoming release.
Artwork for Linux Mint 12 RC comes with new backgrounds featuring Linux Mint logo with 3D sense. Also comes with additional background including photographs from India and the Yellowstone National Park. Linux Mint 12 will use new theme called Mint-Z based on Mint-X and Zukitwo.
