By default the Nautilus file manager uses the pathbar instead of location entry dialog box on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin. Here are a couple of ways to change the it.
Some user prefer to use the location entry dialog box for some reasons such as getting access to a certain directory path, a quicker access to directory path if you already know it, and getting access to hidden directories by adding “.” at the begging of the directory name.

1 Using CLI
Run terminal “Ctrl+Alt+t”, then type
To retrieve the pathbar using terminal, set the value “false”
2 Using Ubuntu Tweak
You can install the latest stable release of Ubuntu Tweak 0.7 from Here.
Open Tweaks tab, then open File Manager from System section.
Check the box for “Use the location entry instead of the pathbar”.
No need to restart nautilus file manager, if you want click “Alt+F2″
