Ok. Now take a look at the Gimp 2.7.3 splash screen, which you’ve posted in this article. It’s the very first thing that greets a user when they click on Gimp. Look at it for a moment. Just make sure your boss isn’t around when you do. That image is creepy, disturbing, NSFW, and just plain unprofessional. Image your wife or a kid sitting down to use Gimp after an update and being met with that image.
I’m hoping this image is just a childish and distasteful joke on the part of the developers since this is technically a “preview” or “unstable” build and not meant to be a stable release for the masses. But an image like that has no place being in the final stable release if Gimp has any hope of being taken seriously.
Ok, first of all the splash screen is cropped earlier from screenshot I captured, and I added above the screenshot for single-window mode screenshot. Second thing in the post i mentioned that this is ” a development release ” it’s not a stable. and other if you have any doubt about this release version, you always you can check the launchpad PPA link for “Matt Walker” and check building status for it.
Good Luck with your suspicions.
Nothing says “graphics editing” like a goat dominatrix. Does that goat (if it is a goat) have both an udder and horns? That’s…odd.
Then there’s the name, which is counterintuitive (like most FOSS), and offensive to handicapped persons everywhere.
But it is a great piece of software. Wouldn’t want to be without it. Looking forward to the stable release.
Completely screwed up my Gimp 2.6 on Natty 11.04 64bit. Can’t revert.
Well, it’s a development release!! so you probably have bugs! However if you need to get back last stable release 2.6. Remove the repository and reinstall the stable release comes with Natty repository.

That image seems to be a (very) loose connection to goatse.cx. Is the GIMP dev team under the assumption only 4chan users use their stuff?
To all the people who whine about Gimp’s splash screen.. Stop trolling you bunch of conformists, your mediocrity disgusts me more! I rather see this splash screen, than some elf chick, android chick, or other barrage of garbage drowned in a disneyfied palette that you see on CG society..
Those are our only two choices: Disney or sadomasochism? I’m sure there’s some sort of middle ground that’s not overly “conformist.”
Also, conformists don’t use Linux. At all. Ever.
Is the wacom tablet working in Gimp 2.7.3 on ubuntu 10.04? It’s impossible to do any decent graphics without a working tablet!
What do I need to do to get the OpenRaster support in Ubuntu 11.04? It works in Windows XP but my Wacom Intuos3 doesn’t. In Ubuntu the tablet works but the OpenRaster support does not. Any ideas?
btw …I have to agree about the splash screen …unprofessional.
Thanks,Steve

I’m using Ubuntu, thanks for sharing information how to get the development version using PPA. This latest one is great, it has better UI especially single-window-mode.
