Replace Default Gnome Menu Bar With GnoMenu Applet

Default Gnome Menu not Fully customizable with easily Graphical user interface that every user able to make his/her customizations.

For GnoMenu you can simply change themes, icons, main menu Applet button.Also including transparent with background for many themes.

GnoMenu working on many ways for panels, Docks, window managers. For Gnome Desktop you can simply remove main menu applet and add the new applet for GnoMenu. you can also use it on Xfce but you will need to install extra package to be able to run Gnome applets on Xfce panel called Xfapplet.

How To Install GnoMenu

Simply download the package then extract it, go to terminal to the directory you extracted this package to and type

 sudo make install

After The installation you will be able to use GnoMenu on AWN Dock, Docky, Cairo Dock, by adding extra applet from the dock preferences ” For more information check the readme file on GnoMenu installation folder.

I tried it on Gnome Panel and works really good and also working on Avant Window Navigator Dock.

You won’t need to tile windows location by yourself any more, with this simple applet you can simply Tile windows in many ways to get best view for active windows. I usually use tile mode to easily compare between to windows and included content inside both, also you can use it to simply drag and drop element from window to another.

You will even like this applet more if you have a huge display with big resolution, in this case you will be able to tile windows on many way without have any problem. cause if you have a small screen you might have problem with tile some windows specially with fixed windows size.

I am not really big fan of Opera web browser for PC, usually used opera on mobile devices and really love it. but the new release Opera 10.60 comes with many new features foe easily use and customize the look of installed Opera version.

Download Opera 10.60 – pick appropriate package version for your distribution.

1. Visual Tab Menu – Cascade Mode

Simply Drag down the tab menu to easily show small thumbnail for each tab already working. also show thumbnails without enlarging the tab menu you can move the cursor to any tab will show you small thumbnail for it.

Tile mode preferred for me to easily make quick comparison between two web page or more. you will find other options for showing tabs on horizontal, vertical tile mode and cascade mode.

2. Speed Dial

customized Speed dials with background and you can add till 25 speed dial.

3. Synchronize Option

fully synchronize with other installed opera version on other machines and and mobile phones with opera browsers. Also called Opera link.

4. Skins for opera

5. Opera 10.60 become faster

For me it’s quite fast than old versions of opera web browser on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

Pros And Cons

For me Opera 10.60 best opera web browser i used so far, and things listed up there are the main pros i noticed on Opera 10.60

Cons: i didn’t like the speed dials a lot cause it’s limited to 25 speed dial max, i usually use more than 25 speed dials on other web browsers like firefox and Google Chrome.

basically after installation you can add icon launcher with the script location

will show a quick example for using Google Docs on GoogleCL GUI 0.1

After you select the service you want it will ask you to specify the account you want to get access to then drag and drop the link showed up on your Terminal to your browser to grant access to this service on your google account.

Then will show up options for Google Docs to list your documents or edit it, upload new document, delete it, or download documents.

simply select option you want, for example will select upload documents and it will ask you to select document you want to upload.

then it will show you that, the file uploaded successfully.

Closer Look on Gimp 2.7 – Gimp 2.8

we used to see Gimp with triple windows view with the last stable release of Gimp for tool box, editing window, and ” layers, patterns, channels, undo, brushes”. But Now with the development release it’s just single window mode for all three windows, and it’s fully customizable for dragging elements all over this window.

compiling operation for the development release is annoying for me a little bit, cause it has some extra dependencies specially with gegl and babl packages, you will find installation readme file on gimp folder follow instruction there to get it right. Download Gimp Development release.

How To Run Launchy at the Startup for Ubuntu 10.04?

Go to preferences then Startup Applications

Add new startup program

Name : Launchy

Command : launchy %u

Distribution : it’s up to you, just to know what is this application about later.

Now you won’t need to start launchy every time you logged in to the system.

Main Options Window For Launchy

A lot of options there to customize user interface and showing the launchy window always on the top, system try, location on you display, Hot buttons to show launchy, by default Ctrl+Space, modify it to the way you like.

Suggestion List: to modify the delay time and number of suggestion applications list, and more, but it’s really recommended to check the box for underline matched text to easily identify the application you want.

  • Single core processor 2.1 GHz

Starting with the boot menu for the Grub 1.98 installed and you will be able choose between running sidux 2010-01, booting from first Hard drive, memory test. and extra options for languages command line. check the small bar down there.

GoogleCL Awesome Command Line Tool For Google Products

Really good tool for taking control of google products using command line “terminal”, supporting many products of google like Blogger, calender, contacts, Docs, picasa, and Youtube.

check the dependencies and system requirement before installation from Here

Download GoogleCL with .Deb file for ubuntu/Debian or the source code for other distributions from Here

After the installation you will need to authorized access for each product you want to use for Google.

when you try to get access to calender for example link will showup to open on your browser to authorize GoogleCL

Please log in and/or grant access via your browser at https://www.google.com/accounts/OAuthAuthorizeToken?oauth_token=..........................then hit enter.

after you open this link on your browser you will be able to add events on you calender. so will add event on calender with this name ” Test for GoogleCL on LinuxNOV ”

using this command line

ln@ln-nov:/$ google calendar add "Test for GoogleCL on LinuxNOV"
open google calender to make sure that event added

it’s really cool way to show informations for your hardware specification and more on your desktop CPU usages, RAM, Swap, uptime, wireless signal strength, free capacity for your partitions, download/upload speed, downloaded/uploaded size for this session, IP address, Kernel version, username, time, date, most processed files, and even more according to Conky website it has more than 300 objects to use.

Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot and earlier releases of Ubuntu

you can find conky on ubuntu software center or synaptic

or you can open Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install conky

su

yum install conky

you can install conky for other distributions, just download the source code form Here and compile according to the instruction there.

./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-x11 --enable-mpd # see --help for a full listing of options

make

make install

How to Run conky at the startup

Go to System – preferences then Startup applications

add new one

for name type : conky

for command type : conky

leave comment

and now every time you run your machine conky will startup
